You will never see them move, but some may argue that the orthodontic process is a radical process. For anyone that has had to wear braces, you may understand. I’m a late bloomer of sorts. Finally opting to correct crooked teeth with some silver braces, and the promise of a Colgate smile. The experience has been interesting, and due to my tendency to extrapolate life lessons from some pretty mundane events in my life, the process of sporting metal railroad tracks inside ones mouth hasn’t escaped. Hey its the way my brain is wired, what can I say.
Recently, I visited my orthodontist for my monthly regular check up. And as usual he reviewed my progress, discussed where we were, and what to expect in the future. “Yeah, everything looks good…hmmm….this eye tooth has really dropped down nicely…” he mutters in surprise.” I meant to ask him why my teeth always seem to garner unique surprise, or was that just a customary remark given to all patients, you know, to make them feel important. Anyway…He then proceeded to access my situation, and recommend to his assistant a stronger metal wire to be used to continue the straightening process.
It’s amazing …I often marvel at how things so seemingly rigid and unmovable, are able to shift…change. Its not until the doctor pulls out the plaster created model of my teeth, or shows me pictures of my before shots, do I see the radical amounts of change that have taken place in a relatively short period of time. Change is surprising sometimes. There are so many things, or people where change just doesn’t seem very possible. I wouldn’t be laying on my back, calmly steering at the fluorescent lights in my orthodontics office, if I didn’t believe in change. The orthodontist wouldn’t be calmly, and confidently poking around and scraping between concrete bone structures, and enamel, if he didn’t know something about the possibilities and the hope of a better smile.
