Discovering The Hero In You

Finally a hero story we can believe in…and one where the main character doesn’t wear his briefs on the outside of his pants. What is that about?

The #truthchat reading and discussion group has been reading The Alchemist during the month of June.

As a result Joseph Campbells analysis of mythology came into sharp focus. Many modern day artist, writers, screen writers, and so on, have been affected by his psychological analysis of what he sees as common themes throughout many of humanities most pervasive myths.

My friend Nirojah shared this break down that I found pretty interesting. Here is a look at each of the steps with a short explanation.

Use it to reexamine your favorite movies. Use it to look at yourself.

I used it to track Santiago, the protagonist in The Alchemist, on his journey for the treasure that he so clearly sees in his dreams. (Great book BTW. A little shallow on the characters, but great thought provoking lessons throughout.)

Without getting carried away…I could also easily identify with some of milestones of a heros journey.

Here are some movie clips that were analyzed through the eyes of The Heros Journey.

Matrix/LOTR/Harry Potter/Star Wars

Star Wars

What do you think about this? Can you see yourself, or your favorite movie, or character through the eyes of this summary of The Heros Journey?
