The Big Idea. LEGGO

The Big Idea. LEGGO

Sometimes its so easy to forget the thing that keeps you up at night. Not the nightmares…but the thoughts that nurse you out of apathy, mediocrity…and into something more.  The ones that send you crawling out of bed at 4am just to write them down.

These are the ones that light you up and give you the focus and will to say no to what may be good, but not right…for you.

And one usually leads the pack.  Or a few of these seemingly disjointed dreams may seem to coalesce around a theme.  And what you feel to be your big idea is born.  Your obsession.

But what if you don’t even have one? Or just one…What if you feel like your mind is pregnant with its first miracle that just hasn’t reached its moment?

Or like your vision is bigger than your stomach.  You just have too many “BIG” ideas floating around upstairs that nothing quite gets done?

It’s taken me about 4-5 years to really begin to discover what that is for me.  A lot of it began with annoying questions that just would not go away.

And then…slowly…the activities that were not in some way connected to the questions of life’s meaning, ultimate purpose, and the human condition, gradually began to be overshadowed by a thirst for more meaningful endeavors.

Maybe you can relate? Maybe our paths are tied to how well we can ask these questions:

  • Who are you really?
  • What do you love to spend you time doing?  Don’t edit your ideal…
  • What do you feel, you and you alone can do while you are alive?
  • What do you believe is ultimately True?  And can you remain open to grow in your understanding?
  • How do you want to be remembered when you are gone? For success? Or for greatness?
  • What in the !flip# do you really want?

Yeah..yeah…I know…no easy answers to some of these.  And BIG ideas are threatening.

They will stink up the job you are tolerating.  A half dead religious experience. They fester in the morning-after-feeling, and raise their heads again in those moments when life’s cool-aid just can’t satisfy your thirst for depth, and living outloud.

But it’s these questions that spawn the journey. It’s the wrestling with uncertainty, mystery, and unknowing that make life interesting.  It is staring at our unlimited potential in the mirror, and not flinching at what we could do…if..we…wanted to.

It is mining the unique, one of a kind, BIG idea that you, and you alone can offer the world.

At least for me…now…this puts the spark behind where it needs to go…and urgency in my steps.  (I’ve discovered a green smoothie in the morning helps too…)

What are the kids saying these days? LEGGO!

What is your big idea?
